Place De Brouckère
OFF EventArt installationVolatiles
Volatiles is an installation consisting of six six-metre-high air dancers, spread across the two Brussels Dance Festival sites (Bourse & De Brouckère). Each character stands on a two-metre-high illuminated, graphic platform, transforming these floating figures into striking visual landmarks. Created especially for the Brussels Dance Festival, Volatiles is the result of a collaboration between two Brussels-based artists. Designer and colour specialist Cécile Barraud de Lagerie created a series of hand-painted patterns, which were then printed across the air dancers. Digital artist Romain Tardy conceived both the installation and its spatial design. The rich visual language of the patterns – each one unique and hand-drawn – reflects the aesthetic and cultural diversity celebrated by the festival. Through their fluid, airy and unpredictable choreography, these large dancing figures echo the vibrant energy of the contemporary dance scene. With their monumental scale, vivid colours and continuous movement, the Volatiles create a joyful, playful and accessible installation, reflecting the spirit of an event designed to bring together a wide audience.
