A huge alien flying saucer has landed at Bourse. Who are they? What do they want? Some dancers emerge and create an other-worldly spectacle as a heavy bass beat soundtrack emanates from inside. Is it music or the engines starting? As the atmosphere intensifies, the Starsaucer lifts into the air and flies over the audience. A beam of light from within seems to be searching for something. Or someone. A figure emerges from the base portal and floating in the beam of light, she spirals over the audience, descending briefly to touch an outstretched hand below. This is an encounter literally out of this world. In the style of an immersive “happening”, Starsaucer is a piece of interactive performance. The driving element is one of anticipation: Something is about to happen but what? So many questions all leading to an impossible finale.

About the artist

The Dream Engine was formed in January 1998 to create unique and unusual performance installations and spectacular aerial events. The shows use the location, the skills of performers, music, lighting and our special ingredient: ingenious mechanisms, to create the illusion of flying, levitation and wonder. Their performance work divides between public street arts festivals in the UK and Europe and the corporate market – parties, product launches, music concerts, expos and sporting events, right across the globe. They have performed in 65 countries, averaging 60 shows per year. Their ideas combine Science and Art to explore new possibilities, and they invent unique installations to offer performers new challenges to create magic. As a theme, their installations are made of air and gas-filled fabric, so big structures can pack up small and tour easily. The Dream Engine HQ is based in Brighton, UK. Their shows are designed and directed by Steve Edgar with Jackie Edgar as co-Director and Company Manager. Their core company can be expanded to include up to twenty artists and technicians, on a project-by-project basis.
