Protect Humanitarians is an independent NGO founded by humanitarian worker and hostage survivor Olivier Vandecasteele in 2024. Turning pain into purpose, the organisation works to strengthen the protection, psychological support, legal aid and advocacy for humanitarian personnel worldwide, with a particular focus on frontline aid workers. As part of its Make Humanity Shine. Protect Humanitarians campaign, this artistic collaboration honours humanitarian workers who have been attacked, detained or persecuted while helping others, using art to celebrate their courage, resilience and humanity.
About the artist
This performance is the result of a collaboration between the NGO Protect Humanitarians and the collective Les Sudakas, as part of the Make Humanity Shine campaign.Protect Humanitarians. Protect Humanitarians highlights the women and men involved in humanitarian action who have been victims of attacks, detention or persecution because of their commitment to supporting people affected by crises. Les Sudakas, a network of Latin American artists founded in 2020, develops collaborative projects that explore contemporary issues related to migration, identities and cultural heritage through artistic creation.
